Alan Berkowitz to speak at OSU on sexual assault prevention


CORVALLIS - Alan Berkowitz, who developed a rape prevention program aimed at men, will give a series of talks this week at Oregon State University focusing on the prevention of sexual assault.

Berkowitz directs the counseling centers at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in New York, where he is a licensed psychologist. An expert on drug use and abuse in higher education, he is a frequent keynote speaker on college campuses.

He will appear at OSU Oct. 9-10 in a series of talks aimed at different groups. His schedule of public events follows: Oct. 9: Public lecture: "What Men and Women Can Do to Prevent Sexual Assault," 7:30 p.m., Memorial Union Lounge.

Oct. 10: Open Session for Student Leaders: "The Role of Student Leaders in Addressing Problems of Health and Social Justice," noon, MU East International Forum.

Forum: "Open Forum for Women Students, Staff and Faculty," 2 p.m., OSU Women's Center. The forum focuses on date rape prevention.

Berkowitz also will meet with a number of campus organizations during his visit, which is sponsored by more than a dozen OSU groups.
