CORVALLIS - Oregon State University's College of Agricultural Sciences has honored outstanding students for the 1995-96 academic year.
Jeffrey Williamson, a senior from Beaverton, received the Burlingham Undergraduate Student of Excellence award. Robin Cross of Eugene was named the Capital Press Outstanding Senior in Agriculture. Shelby Filley, a Ph.D. student now living in Burns, received the Savery Outstanding Graduate Student award.
Williamson will complete work for bachelor of science degrees in horticulture and agricultural and resource economics at the end of the spring term. In winning the Burlingham award, he was cited for campus and community service, as well his high grade point average. His $1,000 cash award was given by the Burlingham family of Woodburn.
The Capital Press Outstanding Senior award recognized Cross for academic excellence, leadership, extracurricular activities and public service during his senior year. His award includes $1,000 and a one-year subscription to the Capital Press.
Cross will complete a bachelor of science degree this summer in agricultural and resource economics, completing the degree in just over three years.
The $1,000 Savery Outstanding Graduate Student award, given by the Agricultural Research Foundation, recognizes graduate students whose research benefits Oregon agriculture and natural resources.
Filley is conducting research in ruminant nutrition and reproductive physiology in OSU's Department of Animal Sciences. Her thesis project is related to low conception and delayed breeding rates for beef heifers being bred a second time. The work will benefit Oregon ranchers.
