The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) in Salem currently offers computer training for state employees, and higher education employees can also take advantage of the classes.
They offer a wide range of courses, including software applications, programming, and business development classes. The classes are open to all state and local government employees, which includes OSU staff and faculty. Classes take place in Salem; registration is on-line (OSU employees would pay by invoice), and costs are reasonable. Check it out!
Their web site is located at: http://www.oregon.gov/DAS/HR/training.shtml.
OSU's Extension Service Computing Technology Unit no longer offers classes to employees. They do offer many excellent on-line training manuals at http://extension.oregonstate.edu/esoc/ectu/services/lessons/lessons.php.
Learning groups are composed of OSU employees who meet to share expertise, learn new skills, and increase their understanding of OSU policies and procedures. Learning groups meet throughout the academic year, with registration typically occurring in October. There is no cost to join a learning group.
Information on the Cooperative Learning Groups can be found at: http://oregonstate.edu/facultystaff/clg/.
OSU faculty and staff have access to free web-based geograhic information system (GIS) short courses ("ESRI Virtual Campus"). The training requires ArcGIS software to be installed on the computer the training will be taken on. Information on the available courses can be found at http://www.geo.orst.edu/esri/esri_distrib.html#vc. Information on OSU's license for GIS software can be found at https://tss.oregonstate.edu/softdist/ESRI/index.shtml.
