YES!!! What a wonderful article!! I have spent my career in laboratory animal science and totally agree with Dr. Durkee. My mom died of breast cancer in 1976 when she was only 47 - I was 12. If she'd been diagnosed today, she'd be a survivor thanks to advances made through responsible animal research. My dad had his first heart attack in 1984 - over the next 25 years, he had two bypasses, a Kevlar graft for an aortic aneurysm, gall bladder removal, and countless drugs. Thanks to those things made possible by animal research, he was able to live to the ripe old age of 81. Those animals allowed him to know his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We who have chosen a career in laboratory animal science are dedicated to the animals - they are our reason for coming to work each day! The really are heroes!!
