Sustainable Eating
University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS) try to make their activities and services as sustainable as possible. To see what UHDS is doing in their facilities, which include the dining centers, please see their sustainability page.
There are a number of restaurants located in Corvallis that support local agriculture and have implemented more sustainable practices at their businesses. The Corvallis Sustainability Coalition issued a list of restaurants that strive to use ingredients from nearby counties.
Waste & Recycling
OSU strives to decrease its landfill-bound waste by reducing, reusing and recycling; Campus Recycling spearheads these efforts. Please help us keep our campus beautiful by reducing what you need to throw away, and properly disposing of what does need to be discarded.
Composting @ OSU
Composting activities are underway at multiple dining centers around campus. When you're finished with your meal, ask a staff member to assist you in reducing the amount of waste headed for the landfill.
There are also numerous small-scale composting projects underway.
- The Student Sustainability Initiative has several projects relating to compost.
- An Earthtub is installed at Marketplace West Dining Center for the composting of kitchen scraps.
- The OSU Organic Growers Club uses makes and uses compost at their farm plot on Highway 34.
- Outside of campus, Allied Waste of Corvallis offers a compost bin to its weekly customers in place of a yard waste container.
