OSU Solar Vehicle Team places first in major competition
The Oregon State University Solar Vehicle team took home the grand prize at the 2013 Formula Sun Grand Prix last week. After completing 193 laps and 656 miles on pure solar-powered energy, the team managed a first place finish, followed closely byteams from Illinois State and Iowa State. The race took place in Austin, Texas on the Circiut of the Americas track. The team is now designing their 4th solar vehicle which they plan to compete with at the 2014 American Solar Challenges.
Sponsors of the vehicle included Mentor Graphics, Composites Universal Group, ATI, Solar World, Keithley, the OSU College of Engineering, Mathworks, Tektronix, and Lancair. The team also sent thanks to Northwestern Univerisyty Missouri S&T, and Principa for their help and contributions.
To celebrate their victory, the team is hosting a get together in MLK Park in Corvallis on Friday, July 5th. The potluck BBQ begins at 5:30 and will run until 9:30. There will be hot dogs, veggie dogs, and potato salad avaiable for everyone in attendance. The winning car will be on display for guests to check out the great amount of work that was put into the 1st place finish.
