"Operations" includes all the business functions that make possible OSU's mission of education, research and public outreach. Campus physical development, purchasing and disposal of goods, and managing OSU's budget are all operational activities.
Oregon State University has been ranked as a campus sustainability leader for 2008. The ranking is part of the Sustainable Endowments Institute's "College Sustainability Report Card," an assessment of sustainability in higher education. This ranking puts OSU in the top 25 in the nation.
OSU is a partner in the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition.
OSU Facilities Services is a member of the Oregon Natural Step Network.
As a charter member of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, OSU has launched a planning process to outline its path toward becoming climate neutral.
The US Environmental Protection Agency has placed OSU in the Green Power Leadership Club as a Green Power Partner, and as an EPA 2007-2008 Green Power Conference Champion as part of EPA’s year long College & University Green Power Challenge.
About 75% of OSU's electricity is purchased from renewable sources through Bonneville Environmental Foundation.
OSU has two LEED certified buildings, one certified Gold. Several other construction projects are underway. All new construction and major remodels at OSU are LEED Silver equivalent or better.
OSU placed first in the 2006 RecycleMania competition, and fourth in 2005.
EPA has also acknowledged OSU as part of the Best Workplaces for Commuters program.
