Welcome New Employees!
Overview
This page was assembled by the OSU Sustainability Office to introduce new employees to sustainability programs at OSU and share some ways you can get involved.
Did you know Oregon State University is ranked in the top 25 in the nation for sustainability efforts? Sustainability is becoming part of our institution's culture, fitting in with that of Oregon and the Northwest. From outstanding student sustainability programs to cutting edge research, OSU practices a wide variety of sustainability-related activities. And with Phase II of OSU's Strategic Plan, it is now a part of the mission of the University.
Get Started!
We recommend you start with a sample of tangible examples of sustainability on campus. Whether you're new to Corvallis and OSU or you've been around a while, a self-guided sustainability walking tour of campus is a great way to discover the "green" features of OSU.
Recycling, Composting and Waste Reduction
Oregon State's excellent recycling program formed in 1970. Today, Campus Recycling has propelled OSU to the forefront of recycling and beyond: to waste reduction. Check out the informational brochure from Campus Recycling to get acquainted with how recycling on campus works. See exactly what's recyclable with the resource guide or request service online.
Campus Recycling plays another major role in reducing the environmental impact of OSU events. If your department is organizing an event, contact Campus Recycling to see how to make the event zero waste.
Green Buildings and Construction
OSU has multiple buildings with green building features, many of which are certified green buildings through the US Green Building Council's LEED program. We currently have the only campus heat and/or power facility certified LEED Platinum.
Get Involved and Stay Up to Date
The OSU Sustainability Office and Campus Recycling offer some great ways to get involved:
- Sign up for the OSU Sustainability Office listserv or the Campus Recycling listserv
- Volunteer at an annual event like Earth Week, da Vinci Days, University Day, the New Student Picnic or another event
- If your department doesn't have one already, become a Sustainability Advocate, the most informed bunch on campus!
- Bookmark the sustainability events page to read about major upcoming events on campus and in the Corvallis area.
