The 2011 Building Energy Challenge consisted of ten E&G buildings competing in 4 categories, as well as the thirteen UHDS Residence Halls and four cooperative houses. The division of buildings into categories was an attempt to normalize inequalities between the buildings' innate base energy load. The buildings are listed below.

* - It has been discovered that significant data center capacity had been added to Kerr since February 2010. This increased load, including cooling & ventilation, and power supply equipment, is thought to be the reason behind the increase in use.
