Core B - Research Translation (RTC)

The Research Translation Core (RTC) facilitates interaction within the SRP at Oregon State University (OSU) and serves as the SRP’s main interface with our stakeholders, NIEHS, and other SRP Centers.

The RTC:

• Interacts regularly with the Administrative Core to integrate the perspectives of stakeholders into our research and research translation strategies.
• Collaborates with the leaders of the cores and the biomedical and non-biomedical research projects to transfer data, technologies, and other SRP outputs to stakeholders including regulatory, enforcement, and public health agencies, as well as communities where Superfund sites reside.
• Works closely with the members of the Community Engagement Core (CEC), helping them tointerpret environmental and biomarker measurements and to communicate results and their healthimplications to Tribal partners and other stakeholders.
• Interacts with the Chemistry and Bioinformatics Cores to encourage stakeholders to take advantage of their unique informatics and analytical chemistry resources.
• For the newly developed Training Core, the RTC will organize lectures for trainees and SRP investigators, focusing on Superfund law, risk assessment processes, and stakeholder responsibilities.Trainees will also participate in RTC-initiated meetings with Project and Core leaders to learn about thechallenges and opportunities in translating basic and applied research.

Addionally, the RTC takes responsibility for communications with other SRP Centers as well as NIEHS. By interacting with the RTC at other centers, we broaden the scientific impact of our discoveries and technologies, identify opportunities for collaborations, and deliver indirect impacts to other  stakeholders. The RTC regularly updates SRP staff at NIEHS on translation-related activities and accomplishments at OSU. The Figure below summarizes the relationship of the RTC to the SRP at Oregon State University.
