Student Involvement Organization E-News
Greetings,
As week 10 begins on the beautiful, sun-drenched Oregon State University campus it is evident why this is called "Dead Week". It's been a challenging term in difficult times with tuition plateaus, funding challenges, large class loads and wintry weather all taking a toll. But don't give in, don't despair. Once you zip through next week’s finals you will have nine glorious days to do all the things that make you smile! Hang in there, spend this week with your head in a book, ace those finals and then enjoy your Spring Break! We look forward to your return on March 29th!

2) Citizens Police Academy
The weekend of April 17th and 18th, the Community Affairs Task Force is holding a Citizens Police Academy for student leaders. The event will last the whole weekend, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Students will learn about the criminal justice system, investigations, take a tour of the jail, traffic and criminal law, defensive tactics, use of force, emergency Vehicle operations, and confrontational simulation. Students will be able to beat up on cops, drive police cars as fast as they want, while gaining a fun and educational experience in the police environment. I encourage you to join in on this event, along with other student leaders within your organization. I have all the information here if you need it; I have the applications as well. I must get all applications in 2 weeks before the event so they have enough time to run background checks on everyone. Note that only 25 student leaders can join in this event, so if you want to go, please contact Robert Straus, the Community Affairs Task Force Director of ASOSU, at 737-6356 or community.affairs@oregonstate.edu.
Applications for a ride along with the Corvallis Police Department are available online at: http://asosu.oregonstate.edu/taskforce_communityphp.php.
3) ASOSU/Memorial Union Elections
The ASOSU/Memorial Union Elections are right around the corner! Anyone interested in getting involved as an officer in either ASOSU or the Memorial Union should come by Student Involvement and pick up an elections packet at the Information Desk, or print off the application forms online at http://asosu.orst.edu/elections. The deadline to submit paperwork for your candidacy is this Thursday, March 11th at 5:00pm. Any questions regarding the election may be directed toward Danielle Cox, the Elections Co-Chair, at asosu.vp@oregonstate.edu.
4) SI Food Drive Challenge: Spaghetti Dinner
Student Involvement is holding a celebration reception for all student organizations involved in the Food Drive Challenge. The spaghetti dinner will be held on Tuesday, March 9th at 5:30pm in the International Forum (Escape Night Club). Please join Student Involvement to thank and recognize all participants in the 1st Annual SI Food Drive Competition and to celebrate success thus far in the current academic year. For more information, please contact the staff at the Information Desk in Snell Hall 149 at 737-2101 or email InformationDesk@oregonstate.edu.
