Jim Koski - Student Affairs Service Award 2005-06

Statement of Wonderfulness

In Celebration of

Jim Koski
Student Health Services

Physician Dr. Jim Koski provides primary care to students.  He is an internist who provides high quality health care for students.  He is also the medical contact for the staff-faculty fitness program.  And he has been the program manager for the implementation of the electronic medical records at Student Health Services.  Jim wrote and received a grant for a hepatitis B study which provided students with the vaccine at no cost.  “While pursuing his Master of Public Health at OSU, Jim performed research on Hepatitis B immunization in college students.  This was helpful for OSU Student health in assessing our own student population in terms of Hepatitis B immunization.”

Jim chaired the committee that for the past 2 years researched, purchased and is now implementing the new Electronic Medical Record System.  Jim has chaired the Continuing Education Committee and organized a program through Good Samaritan Hospital so physicians and nurses can get formal continuing education credit for the continuing medical education programs offered at SHS.  He helped to develop a top notch program with local and statewide speakers on various medical topics.

Dr. Koski’s work with the Hepatitis B and Continuing Medical Education programs have made a difference in the service provided to students.  Continuing medical education is a very important aspect of providing state of the art care to students.

“I think Jim works harder than any one else at Student Health.  He comes in during breaks and on weekends.  He stays late.  But he is always so humble about his amazing contributions to SHS.  He is always willing to answer questions, and to research medical topics in order to help provide the best health care for students.  Jim is just a great guy!  He has great Beaver spirit and attends many athletic events and other campus functions.”

Words used to describe Jim are:  humble, competent, dedicated, and outstanding.

Dr. Koski demonstrates the Campus Compact in the following ways:

  • He is just – always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt and has high integrity with his work and with his interactions with both students and co-workers.
  • He is open – Jim is easy to talk to and to ask questions of.
  • He is caring – Jim has a commitment to the health of students and the well-being of the staff.
  • He is celebrative – He has really put himself on the line sometimes to perform in some outrageous skits at SHS celebrations.

Congratulations, Jim!
