Jack Kemp - Student Affairs Service Awards 2009-10
Statement of Wonderfulness
in Celebration of
Determined, persistent, constructive, energetic, absorbed, cheerful, collaborative, supportive, and caring are just a few of the words used to describe this “unsung hero” who “works behind the scenes” for the Student Media team.
As Chief Engineer for KBVR FM and TV, Jack is a technician, who keeps studio equipment operating and recommends new purchases. Jack is a creator of new possibilities, such as the mobile player that allowed KBVR TV to be watched on phones and within a few hours after a suggestion, designed a mobile site for the Daily Barometer. Jack is a teacher and mentor who works from 9 in the morning to 8 at night fixing equipment for students and supporting their needs.
One of the goals of Jack was to put every video production created by students on the web. To do this, his colleague noted that he “had to teach himself a whole lot of new skills.” Once the player was operating to show the videos he committed to having every show up on the player within 12 hours of airing. If on vacation, Jack has been found to upload remotely if no trained student was available to do the work.
Jack was described as someone who is “always willing to be here for students and that he arranges his work hours around their production schedule, so he can be there to assist.” Jack is purposeful through teaching, creating manuals and trainings, and by engaging students/staff in thoughtful discussion. He is disciplined in meeting his commitments to students and the department. He is open by encouraging and modeling asking questions. He is caring which can be witnessed through his nurturing, respectful and responsible interactions. Jack is just by treating all students with care and compassion.
Finally he is celebrative by being one of the first to remember a birthday or host a pizza party. He models work/life balance by also being a wonderful, caring father who attends every school event, conference, and doctor’s appointment. “He has a strong devotion to his family.”
You are respected and appreciated Jack. Congratulations!
