Heather Chermak - Student Affairs Service Award 2005-06
Statement of Wonderfulness
In Celebration of
Office of the Registrar
HEATHER CHERMAK is a worthy recipient for the Student Affairs Service Award. She is ever ready to provide good service to all customers, whether student, staff, or faculty. She is always cheerful, goes the extra mile to assist, and does so willingly and with a smile. In the office, Heather is willing to pitch in on any task, big or small, and enthusiastically supports our whole team. She is 100% dependable and reliable.
Heather has played a vital role in implementing several new processes and procedures that have streamlined the functions that the Registrar’s Office is responsible for:
- Enrollment Verifications are now outsourced through the National Student Clearinghouse. This frees our office from doing many manual certifications and is offered at no cost to the students who can obtain an Enrollment Verification for free from online services. This has also cut down the tremendous number of telephone verification requests that previously dominated our time in the Student Records area.
- Web grading was implemented, and Heather was responsible for giving instructions through formal presentations as well as detailed written instructions to all academic departments on campus on how to carry this out. This has been a tremendous success and greatly simplified grade processing.
- Microfiche of non-Banner student transcripts. Heather served as a liaison that worked with the vendor to copy hundreds of student transcripts to microfiche CD’s that Records personnel can easily obtain data from without the need to research records from Archives. This also enables our transcript clerk to print official transcripts from CD discs more quickly.
Heather was also responsible for coordinating our basement of Kerr Administration Building. This involved a lot of management skills to keep everyone in the office functioning in their temporary quarters while serving the student body, faculty, and staff. Heather is our “go to” person when problem solving is involved in Student Records as well as other areas of this office.
Cheerful. Willing to help. Smart. Persistent. Funny. Those are just a few of how friends and colleagues describe Heather. She is someone who can be counted on for the very best every day. She is a busy person who never lets her hectic schedule get in the way of personal attention to questions and requests from students, faculty, advisors, college and academic departments staff, and the general public.
She has a great sense of humor and is always ready to enjoy a smile or a laugh with those around her. She is a veryenergetic and creative person who shares her enthusiasm for OSU with everyone she meets.
