Frank Ragulsky, Director of Student Media, wears many hats. His responsibilities include The Daily Barometer, Beaver Year Book, Prism Magazine, the OSU Directory, KBVR FM and KBVR TV. He also oversees a number of high school programs, which include The NW Scholastic Press, a program of support for high school student publications advisors, Fall press Day at OSU, which provides journalism experience for high school students, and Summer Workshops, where high school students come to the OSU campus for multi-day visits to get a head start on their newspapers and year books. I was told the latter is easily a 24 hr. a day project and Frank seems to exhibit endless energy during these sessions.
Frank has served on a variety of committees including The Memorial Union Leadership Team, the University Student Media Committee, and the E.E.Wilson scholarship selection committee .He is also active in the greater Corvallis community, as exemplified by his work on the Board of Directors for the Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as his work in the Men’s Homeless Shelter. His involvement reaches beyond the state where he is active in The Western Association of University Publications Managers’ Association.
His colleagues describe him as caring, hard working, and “leading by example,” portraying the campus compact in all he does. They say that when he isn’t wearing his fishing hat to a “bank” (river bank that is), where he goes for relaxation and renewal, he has an open door for staff and students and, after discussion and questions are answered, he gives people space to make their own decisions. Frank is described as a good listener, able to diffuse anger, and transform that energy into learning. I was told that he shows those around him respect and appreciation, and now, his colleagues would like to take this opportunity to show him how much they respect and appreciate him.
Congratulations, Frank Ragulsky, for a job well done!
