Perspectives 2002: Commitments - Suggestions

Suggestions:

"It's time for us to take a hard look at our environment and to see what it is like for us in our offices in the division. If there are people that are overworking or are not feeling part of the team, not feeling supported, or not being provided access to development opportunities like we committed to do, we need to honest about it. Let's take our own inventory and be honest about our strengths and weaknesses... The big thing that I'm worried about is the collision between workload and university non-office work. We have got to figure that out, I want everybody to feel like they can participate in that university work because it's fun and feel like you are doing great stuff. That's exciting and I want people to feel that they can do that instead worrying about time not allowing them to go to those committee meetings. I don't want people staying late because they went to a committee meeting. The committees are just as important as the paper shuffling we do." -Bill Oye, Student Conduct and Mediation

"The conditions now on campus with the budget crisis could be compared to that when the document was created. The effort of joining together to create the Campus Compact brought hope. The Compact was meant to be a living document. I think because the challenge of balancing increasing enrollment with decreasing funding resources and strain that puts on our resources has left us with precious little time or energy. For that fact this is a good time to come together again and renew hope, celebrate our accomplishments and revisit what we created in the Campus Compact and see how we need to let it 'live' for today."
-Rose Lacey, Dean of Students Office
"In order to honor the commitment to focused ongoing assessment there should be a consistent division-wide evaluation process."
-Christian Matheis, Diversity Development
"More visibility of the Campus Compact is necessary especially for students."
-Raquel Tambio, (student) Student Health Services
"We need the document to be out in the public view for everyone to see."
-Chris Thompson, Memorial Union
"For the Compact to have the greatest visibility we need to be more purposeful with planning... The more that we can repeat it and infuse the ideas in programming, the more sustainable it will be."
-Susan Poole, Student Health Services
"We need to take a look at the accountability for the Compact and its vocabulary. The Rights and Responsibilities component is tangible. We should focus in on this section during new employee orientation."
-Bob Kerr, Greek Life
