Peggy L. Maki, Ph.D.
Higher education consultant, Dr. Peggy L. Maki, specializes in assisting institutions to integrate assessment of student learning into educational practices, processes, and structures. Her work also focuses on assessment within the context of accreditors’ expectations for institutional effectiveness. She has recently been named to the Board of contributors of About Campus, appointed to the Advisory Board of the Wabash Center for Critical Inquiry, appointed Assessment Field Editor for Stylus Publishing, and Department Editor of Assessment for About Campus. In summer 2004 she joins both the Association of American Colleges & Universities’ Annual Summer Institute on Assessing General Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching’s summer institute as a workshop leader and presenter.
Dr. Maki has conducted over 250 workshops on assessment both in the U. S. and abroad. Her articles on assessing student learning have appeared in AAHE’s Bulletin, Change Magazine, The Journal of Academic Librarianship, NetResults, Assessment Update, and AAHE’s Inquiry and Action series. Her writing also includes articles, chapters in books, and a book on the teaching of writing. Additionally she conducts writing-across-the-curriculum workshops that develop and document student learning. Her new book, Assessing for Learning: Building a Sustainable Commitment Across the Institution, will be released summer, 2004 by Stylus Publishing.
Formerly Senior Scholar and Director of Assessment at the American Association for Higher Education (AAHE), Dr. Maki has also served as Associate Director of the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education, New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., New England’s regional accrediting body; Vice President, Academic Dean, Dean of Faculty, and Professor of English, Bradford College, MA; and Chair of English, Theatre Arts, and Communication, Associate Professor of English, and Dean of Continuing Education, Arcadia University, PA. Recipient of the National Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching.
Marilee J. Bresciani, Ph.D.
Dr. Bresciani has been in higher education administration and faculty position for over 15 years. In those positions, she has conducted enrollment management research, quantitative and qualitative institutional research, course-embedded assessment, and academic and administrative program assessment. As Director of Assessment for Undergraduate Affairs at North Carolina State University, Dr. Bresciani assisting units and departments with the development of their assessment plans, the identification and development of assessment tools and methods, and the use of their data for continuous improvement. In addition, Dr. Bresciani teaches assessment courses in the Department of Adult and Community College Education at NC State. Dr. Bresciani is also the Managing Partner in an international assessment and enrollment management consulting firm.
She has published numerous articles and book chapters on assessment and her new book, Assessing Student Learning and Development: A Handbook for Practitioners, was released summer 2004 by NASPA. Dr. Bresciani has been invited to conduct workshops, consult, and present on student learning and ssessment throughout the U.S. and as well as in South Africa, Austria, and Scotland.
