This year’s Service Award for Admissions is presented to Alicia Ortega!
Alicia is the Assistant Director for Minority Recruitment at OSU. As such, Alicia oversees recruitment programs, calling efforts and special initiatives to recruit students from underrepresented groups to attend OSU, and is the primary person responsible for recruiting students of color.
Alicia has made many significant contributions to OSU. She helped start and coordinate application workshops in communities that have expanded and been highly effective. She serves as Admissions liaison to the Minority Education Offices and the Cultural Centers. Alicia is also a liaison with the Alumni Association and Foundation calling campaigns. Alicia is an Advisor to Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She works with GEAR Up programs and the Hispanic Initiative Group. She is a member of Admissions Leadership, the Student Activities Committee, and has served on many search committees – working to bring the best to OSU. In addition to all this, Alicia is the Program Coordinator for this year’s PNACAC (Pacific Association of College Admission Counselors) Conference in Missoula, MT and has been nominated as a national delegate to serve as a senator for the NACAC (National Association of College Admissions Counselors.
As if all that weren’t enough, Alicia always makes time to help other University units, to support students, and to attend to a variety help, and to attend a variety of student events. As an OSU alum, it is evident how much Alicia loves and cares about OSU and our community.
When asked to describe Alicia, one thing several colleagues commented on is her tireless and amazing energy! Some other words used to describe Alicia were mentor, caring, intelligent, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, vivacious, energetic, and a Beaver-believer!
Here are a few direct quotes from those who work with Alicia on a daily basis: “Alicia is very knowledgeable about everything OSU and she is great at relating her knowledge to others;” “She achieves all of her goals and assignments and does a superior job;” and “She is an idea person, willing to try new things to make a difference.”
For her dedication to students and her tireless pursuit to improve OSU, it is our pleasure to celebrate the contributions of Alicia Ortega with this Service Award.
