Ryan is a Fee Board Member with the SSI. He obtained his M.S. in Water Resources Engineering at OSU in 2010, and is now pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Water Resources Engineering. His research is focused on the hydrology of shrinking/swelling clay soils, and his main experimental research site is located in south-central Chile, where he spends 1-2 months each year. Before arriving at OSU, Ryan worked for two years at a wastewater treatment facility near Portland, and then spent another two years with the Peace Corps in Bolivia, doing basic sanitation work such as designing water systems and building dry latrines and rainwater storage tanks. In the future he hopes to conduct and use applied research to combat real-life problems, such as by developing small-scale sanitation solutions. In his free time, Ryan enjoys photography, being outdoors, playing and watching basketball (Go Blazers!), and anything related to bicycles.
