Civic Engagement & Service
Student Leadership and Involvement will provide engagement and experiential learning opportunities that will encourage students to explore issues of public (local and global) concern and understand their ability and agency to envision and create a better world. This means that students will comprehend that their actions and decisions impact the people and environment around them – their actions matter. Through programming that fosters connections between academic learning, community, and place, students will develop as stewards and active citizens who are able to critically examine how their knowledge, skills, and abilities can contribute to fulfilling community needs. Students will value contributing to and serving something larger than themselves in order to contribute to society’s intellectual, cultural, spiritual, economic, social, and environmental progress. Through increased civic literacy and advancing civic action and democratic engagement for the common good, OSU students will develop an ethic of active citizenship that fulfills community needs.
Students will develop a keen understanding and value for the way that their actions impact the social and environmental systems around them and work to use their knowledge, skills, and abilities to meet community identified needs.
