SIFC annual reviews two student-fee funded units every year, usually one in the fall and one in the spring. These reviews can take anywhere to just a few months to a year, depending on the size of the organization being reviewed, the objectives of the review, and other factors.
These reviews started after the Special Commission for Student Fees Strategic Planning reviewed the entire student fee process in the fall of 2009 and issued a comprehensive report with many recommendations to make the student fee process better, and one of those recommendations was to have these organizational reviews twice a year.
The SIFC determines the organizations to be reviewed every year. These reviews aren't supposed to be bad or imply that something is wrong, it is a process that SIFC implemented to make student fees as transparent, low, and efficient as possible. The SIFC creates a charge that the entire appointed review committee operates under. The SIFC is also responsible for appointing the members to the review committee. Committee's are generally made up of 8 to 10 people, with around a 50/50 split on the student/staff ratio. Both a student and staff member serve as the co-chairs as well. Summer Fee: This is currently ongoing, and is a much different committee than normal. This committee is not reviewing an organization, but instead the entire student fee process that surrounds the summer fee and how that is assessed and charged. The charge is here.
