About Lori Robinson  
  • Lori Robinson is the author of I Will Survive: The African-American Guide to Healing from Sexual Assault and Abuse
 
   
   Ms. Robinson will address her experience of rape and healing, the history of race-based sexual violence in the United States, and how it impacts people of all races today. She will also dispel common rape myths and expose basic facts about sexual assault and abuse. See below for additional information about Ms. Robinson.

This event is sponsored by the Associated Students of Oregon State University (ASOSU), President’s Commission on the Status of Women (PCOSW), the Women’s Center, Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS)/Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), EVERY1 sexual violence peer educators (Student Health Services), NCAA/CHAMPS Life Skills program.

Lori S. Robinson is the author of “I Will Survive: The African-American Guide to Healing from Sexual Assault and Abuse,” published in March 2003 by Seal Press. Since then, she has been speaking at colleges, community organizations and churches across the country and abroad about sexual violence.

Also a journalist, Robinson is currently the editor of African American Family, a lifestyle magazine in Detroit. And she is the founding editor of VidaAfroLatina.com, a digital news and opinion magazine.

Robinson’s freelance work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, Detroit Free Press andEssence, among other publications. She has won several journalism awards. Her work has also been recognized by women’s organizations and service provider groups, including the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, the Black Church and Domestic Violence Institute and the International Black Women’s Congress. She has been interviewed about sexual violence by CBS Evening News, the Los Angeles Times, Houston Chronicle, Washington Post and numerous other media outlets.


Robinson earned a master’s degree in journalism from New York University. She graduated from Spelman College with a bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish.
