Sexual Violence
- According to the National Violence Against Women Survey, 1 in 33 men in the United States has
experienced an attempted or completed rape at some time in their lives (Tjaden and Thoennes 2000).
- Up to one out of six men report having had unwanted direct sexual contact with an older person by the
age of 16. If we include non-contact sexual behavior, such as someone exposing him- or herself to a child,
up to one in four men report boyhood sexual victimization. (Lisak et al 1996; Finkelhor et al 1990)
Intimate Partner Violence
- Men were victimized in 3% of violent crimes committed by an intimate partner (Rennison 2003).
Stalking
- 2.2% of surveyed men reported being stalked at some time in their life (Tjaden & Thoennes 2000).
