About SARN

Sexual Assault Response Network at OSU

The Sexual Assault Response Network (SARN) was developed to strengthen and formalize the coordination of services offered by agencies that respond to sexual assaults involving Oregon State University students. Our hope is that these alliances will benefit residents of the greater Corvallis community as well.

Sexual assault is a term that describes all non-consensual sexual contact, and may describe a range of behaviors that violate Oregon State law or the OSU Student Conduct Regulations. Consent is described as a freely given, voluntary, participatory agreement to engage in the sexual activity by all involved.

The purpose of SARN is:

  • to function as a multidisciplinary network to provide caring and effective response to sexual assault survivors;
  • to develop and implement effective communication within and across agencies while protecting the confidentiality of involved students;
  • to develop written guidelines describing policies and procedures for sexual assault response within and between agencies; and
  • to utilize internal and external input and feedback to assess sexual assault response, identify needs, and work collaboratively to enhance our resources and services.

SARN is committed to:

  • insuring and supporting survivor's safety, confidentiality, and empowerment to make informed choices and to determine their process of recovery and healing;
  • insuring due process for persons accused of sexual assault through the legal system and campus disciplinary system; and
  • offering support services to individuals and/or groups connected with survivors and the accused to facilitate healing within our community and the rebuilding of safety and trust.
