vote related to this policy is anticipated during the June Faculty Senate meeting.
- Committee Interest Form – due May 13 at Noon
Faculty and staff are invited to volunteer for committee service by completing the online form;
a solicitation letter is also available for viewing.
If you wish to resign from current committee membership due to termination or sabbatical, please either contact your committee chair or e-mail
firstname.lastname@example.org and include your name, the name of the committee from which you wish
to resign and your date of resignation.
New this year is an opportunity for faculty to indicate areas in which they have a particular interest. Because Faculty Senate leadership is
occasionally asked to recommend names of interested faculty for particular committees, issue groups or task forces, the Faculty Senate hopes to create a pool of
potential faculty (academic, research, professional) who are willing to serve.
- PEBB Board Chair to visit OSU Campus – May 14
On May 14 from 2:00-3:00 PM Sean Kolmer, PEBB Board Chair & Heath Policy Advisor to Governor Kitzhaber, will visit the OSU campus in the MU Journey Room
to discuss healthcare and hear your comments/concerns regarding PEBB plans, your priorities for 2015, etc. Registration is not required; seating will be
on a first come basis.
- Small Group Sessions with President Ray
Faculty are encouraged to register to meet with President Ray in a small group session
on May 23 or June 5. This is an opportunity for you to communicate concerns to President Ray.
Baccalaureate Core Category Review Workshop – May24
The Baccalaureate Core Committee is finishing the category review of Synthesis courses, and preparing to start the category review for Mathematics, Speech, and Fitness categories as well as WIC classes from Agricultural Sciences, Business, and Public Health and Human Sciences. A final workshop intended for those preparing course review materials (or for anyone interested in the process) will be held on Friday May 24 from 2:00-3:30 PM. Please see online information for registration details.
- Executive Committee Brown-bag Session – Professional Faculty Issues – May 31
The Faculty Senate is hosting a brown-bag listening session to hear concerns from professional faculty. Because these colleagues are major constituents of the Faculty Senate, the Executive Committee needs to understand their unique issues in order to better advocate on their behalf. You are invited to participate in the May 31 session from 11:45-12:45 in 202 Kidder Hall.
- Senate Bill 270 – Establishes Process for Establishing OUS Institutional Boards
In the course of the legislative process on SB270, the bill to institute local
governing boards for OUS institutions, amendments were proposed to prohibit faculty and other employees from participating as voting members of any such board.
The Executive Committee voted unanimously to oppose such wording and, on their (and your) behalf, Faculty Senate President, Kevin Gable, presented this letter to Rep. Michael Dembrow, chair of the House Committee of Higher Education and Workforce Development. We will keep you apprised of developments as this legislation moves forward.
