A. ACTION ITEMS
1. Bylaws Revision
Lynda Ciuffetti, Bylaws and Nominations Committee Chair, will present for approval a Bylaws
revision that would allow the apportionment table to be used in two consecutive years. The
2009 Apportionment Table indicates the change in numbers of Senators from 2008 to 2009.
2. Bylaws Revision Implementation
This motion will be considered only if the above motion is approved. President Doescher will ask for approval to implement the above Bylaws revision by allowing the 2009 apportionment table to be used in determining the number of Senators for 2010 elections.
B. SPECIAL REPORTS
1. H1N1 Planning
Phil Histand and Susie Brubaker-Cole will present processes and plans developed by the University’s Emergency Preparedness and Influenza Planning Committees to deal with potential impacts on the instructional and research realms. 2. PEBB – Open Enrollment
Donna Chastain, Employee Benefits Manager will explain the necessity of everyone participating in open enrollment (October 1-30).
President Ed Ray will deliver his State of the University Address titled "Setting Our Course." President Ray will also talk about the attributes we should attain by 2025 to be on track to be a top ten land-grant university, review where we stand today, and indicate specific investments, strategies, and changes we must make now to continue in that direction.
D. INFORMATION ITEMS
1. Faculty Senate Fall Elections
Lynda Ciuffetti, Bylaws and Nominations Committee Chair, is accepting recommendations for 1) President-Elect, 2) Executive Committee members, and 3) Interinstitutional Faculty Senate Senator. Executive Committee nominees must be a current Senator and President-Elect nominees must have been a Senator (current and past Faculty Senators are available online). Nominations may be forwarded to the Faculty Senate Office via electronic mail to: faculty.senate@oregonstate.edu. Deadline for nominations is October 9.
NOTE: If Senators wish to make a nomination from the floor at the November meeting when the slate of candidates is presented, they must have received prior approval from the nominee.
4. Faculty Senate Calendar
Please reserve the following dates for Faculty Senate meetings during academic year 2009-10; check your monthly agenda to determine the location. All meetings are scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM:
2009 – November 12, December 10
2010 – January 14, February 11, March 11, April 8, May 13, and June 10.
5. University Day
The 2009 University Day program, including Dr. Shaun Harper’s keynote address titled "The Consequences of Remaining Silent: Engaging the Realities of Race on Campus" will be streamed online at http://oregonstate.edu/events/universityday/.
6. OSU Distinguished Service Award Solicitation
The Faculty Recognition and Awards Committee requests nominations for the OSU Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes individuals or organizations who have made exceptional contributions or who have rendered unusual service to society. Criteria and nomination information is available online at http://oregonstate.edu/senate/awards/nom/dsa/. Nominations are due December 1, 2009. 7. Mandatory Open Enrollment for 2010 Medical Benefits
Participation in Open Enrollment, October 1–31, is mandatory for all employees to select a 2010 medical plan OR to continue to Opt-Out of the medical plans. If you do not enroll or opt-out of a 2010 medical plan in October:
