The agenda for the February Senate meeting will include the reports and other
items of business listed below.
Category I Proposals
Carol Brown, Curriculum Council chair, will present for approval the following Category I proposals:
- Budget Issues
Provost Randhawa will report on what is known regarding the budget situation.
Chancellor Pernsteiner will report on the efforts of OUS on behalf of state institutions at the legislature.
University-Industry Research Partnering
John MacDonald, CEO MacDonald Group, will present industry partnering rationale, OSU partnering study findings, and industry partnering opportunities related to the University-Industry Research Partnering effort. He will also review the Faculty Training Outline.
- Emergency Alert System
Jack Rogers, Public Safety Director, and Jon Dolan, Network Services Associate Director, will present information about the recently implemented Emergency Alert System referred to as OSU Alert. Information about OSU Alert can be found at http://alert.oregonstate.edu. The Report on the Initial Test of the Emergency Alert System is also available for viewing.
Strategic Plan Forums
All faculty and staff are invited to attend the remaining Strategic Plan Forum on February 12, 2009 from 1:00-2:30 in the MU Journey Room.
The January 20 forum was video recorded, and is available at http://oregonstate.edu/media/qznvd. If you are unable to attend the forums, input may be submitted to OSU.Provost@oregonstate.edu.
- Awards Solicitation
The Faculty Recognition and Awards Committee is accepting nominations for the below awards; for further information, contact Vickie Nunnemaker at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Richard M. Bressler Senior Faculty Teaching Award
- International Service Award
- D. Curtis Mumford Faculty Service Award
- OSU Academic Advising Award
- OSU Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award
- OSU Extended Education Faculty Achievement Award
- OSU Faculty Teaching Excellence Award
- OSU Professional Faculty Excellence Award
- Outstanding Faculty Research Assistant Award
- Dar Reese Excellence in Advising Award
- Elizabeth P. Ritchie Distinguished Professor Award
- Student Learning and Success Teamwork Award
Two new research awards have been approved and nominations are being accepted for presentation at University Day 2009; nomination materials for these two awards must be submitted by April 3, 2009:

The Promising Scholar Award recognizes the scholarship of junior faculty and bestows upon the recipient the title “Promising Scholar” for the year following receipt of the award. The award consists of a $1,500 honorarium.
- OSU Impact Award for Outstanding Scholarship - http://oregonstate.edu/senate/awards/nom/impact/
The OSU Impact Award for Outstanding Scholarship recognizes OSU faculty who have demonstrated outstanding scholarship in a specific project or activity resulting in substantial impact beyond the university setting. The award consists of a $2,500 honorarium and the recipient will be invited to present highlights of their work at a one-hour presentation that is open to the public.
- Suicide Risk Reduction (Gatekeeper) Training
An interactive 90-minute seminar will be presented for OSU Faculty and Staff on March 19. Participants will leave with: 1) Increased knowledge regarding warning signs of a student at risk, 2) Enhanced intervention skills, 3) Important information about referral & consultation resources on the OSU campus to support you and students at risk. - Business Center Forums
All faculty and staff are invited to attend the below scheduled Business Center Forums to learn about progress on the implementation of the centers and ask questions related to them.
