FACULTY SENATE AGENDA

The agenda for the October Senate meeting will include the reports and other items of business listed below.

1. SPECIAL REPORTS

   1. State of the University Address
      President Ed Ray will deliver his State of the University Address titled "Walking the Talk.”
   2. Capital Campaign Update
      Shawn Scoville, OSU Foundation Sr. Vice President and Capital Campaign Director, will update the Faculty Senate regarding activities related to the Capital Campaign.
   3. Interinstitutional Faculty Senate
      Paul Doescher, IFS Senator, will report on the October Interinstitutional Faculty Senate meeting.

2. INFORMATION ITEMS

   1. Director of Women's Advancement and Gender Equity
      Dr. Donna Champeau began her appointment as Director of Women’s Advancement and Gender Equity effective September 1, 2007. Donna is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health. She has been a part of the OSU community since 1996 and has been actively involved in moving us forward in our goal to create an equitable educational environment and a community that is inclusive and respectful.
      
      An overview of the new Women's Advancement and Gender Equity position is available for review. All OSU students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to become familiar with the responsibilities of this new Office and to work with Donna as appropriate (737.3835 or donna.champeau@oregonstate.edu). She is temporarily located in Waldo 316. The future location of the new Office of Women’s Advancement and Gender Equity will be Waldo Hall, Rooms 266 and 268. Facilities Services is presently working to upgrade the area.
      
   2. Faculty Senate Fall Elections
      Bill Boggess, Bylaws and Nominations Committee Chair, is accepting recommendations for 1) President-Elect, 2) Executive Committee members, and 3) Interinstitutional Faculty Senate Senator. Executive Committee nominees must be a current Senator and President-Elect nominees must have been a Senator (current and past Faculty Senators are available online). Nominations may be forwarded to the Faculty Senate Office via electronic mail to faculty.senate@oregonstate.edu. Deadline for nominations is October 11.
      NOTE: If Senators wish to make a nomination from the floor at the November meeting when the slate of candidates is presented, they must have received prior approval from the nominee.
      
   3. Faculty Senate Calendar
      

      Please reserve the following dates for Faculty Senate meetings during academic year 2007-08; check your monthly agenda to determine the location. All meetings are scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM:

      • 2007 – November 8, December 6
      • 2008 – January 10, February 14, March 13, April 10, May 8, and June 12.
        
   4. University Day Speech
      Dr. Martha Dennis Christianson’s University Day Speech titled “True North: Balancing Passion, Compassion, and Self-Care” is streamed online at: http://oregonstate.edu/media/archives/ - click on University Day 2007. The speech begins at 59 seconds and ends at 25:42
