FACULTY SENATE AGENDA

The agenda for the May Senate meeting will include the reports and other items of business listed below.

1. ACTION ITEM

   1. Category I Proposals

      Marv Pyles, Curriculum Council Co-chair, will present the following Category I proposals:

      • Proposal for the Initiation of a New Instructional Program Leading to the Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering
      • Reduced Graduation Requirements for the BS Degree in Wood Science and Technology

2. SPECIAL REPORTS

   1. Research Office Report

      John Cassady, Vice President for Research, will provide an update on research activities.

   2. Retirement Compensation

      Jeff Hale will present changes in retirement compensation.

3. COMMITTEE REPORT

   1. Library Committee

      Molly Engle, Library Committee Chair, will present an update of committee activities including merging of the Task Force on Scholarly Communications.

4. INFORMATION ITEMS

   1. Joint Report of the Renewable-term Professorial Rank Task Force and the College of Agricultural Sciences Fixed Term Faculty Issue Group

      This report was presented by Dan Edge at the March Faculty Senate meeting and input was solicited at that time. The final report is attached.

   2. SET Survey

      The Faculty Senate Advancement of Teaching Committee has created three surveys to gather opinions related to the Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET) form; all take about 5 minutes to complete. The targeted audience and associated link appear below (each survey contains questions developed for the targeted audience):

      • Instructors
      • Administrators
      • Students

   3. 2006 Faculty Survey

      The Faculty Economic Welfare and Retirement Committee has constructed a 5 to 10 minute online survey to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses of OSU and the OUS system. The survey will be available through May 19th.

      For the results of this survey to be representative of our faculty, it is critical that we get a good response rate. Urge your colleagues to respond. Send your own announcement to your colleagues in your own unit. A message from a colleague probably counts more than a general message from the committee.

      All faculty who have representation in the Faculty Senate are included.

   4. Library Committee

      The Faculty Senate Library Committee has prepared a four-article series discussing scholarly communication. The articles are being published in OSU This Week beginning May 4 and ending May 25. The articles appearing in OSU This Week. The articles published in OSU This Week have been edited due to space limitations. Complete articles are being archived on the Valley Library web site on scholarly communications or the Faculty Senate Library Committee web site.
