FACULTY SENATE AGENDA

The agenda for the February Senate meeting will include the reports and other items of business listed below.

  1. ACTION ITEMS

    1. TESOL Category I Proposal
       Walt Loveland, Curriculum Council Co-chair, will present the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Graduate Certificate Category I Proposal for approval.

  2. SPECIAL REPORTS
    1. Interinstitutional Faculty Senate Recap
       Mina Carson, senior IFS Senator, will recap the February meeting.

    2. Athletics
       Kelvin Koong, Faculty Athletic Representative, will describe his role and outline his goals, as well as address academic integrity issues.

    3. Legislative Issues
       Jock Mills, Director of Government Relations, will report on the state agenda and Liz LaPolt, Associate Director for Federal Relations, will report on the federal agenda.

  3. INFORMATION ITEMS
    1. Suicide Awareness Presentation

      University Counseling &Psychological Services (UCPS) has scheduled two presentations for faculty, staff, and administrators regarding Suicide Awareness. Each presentation will last one hour, with time for Q&A. They will both be held in the Journey Room of the MU Powell Leadership Center.

      Tuesday, February 8, 4 - 5 pm
      Friday, February 25, 12 - 1 pm

    2. OSU Distinguished Service Award

      Nominations are being accepted for the OSU Distinguished Service Award through March 10, 2005. The Oregon State University Distinguished Service Award is awarded to persons, and in some cases to organizations, who have made exceptional contributions, or who have rendered unusual service, to society.

      While persons or organizations receiving the awards need not have any connection with Oregon State University, most of those previously selected have had some OSU connection. Generally, the Distinguished Service Award is not awarded to current staff members or persons with emeritus status, except under unusual circumstances. Contributions beyond OSU, to the state, the region, the nation and/or the world, are critical.
