FACULTY SENATE AGENDA

The agenda for the May Senate meeting will include the reports and other items of business listed below.

  1. ACTION ITEM
    1. Faculty Panels for Hearing Committee Election
      The Board's Administrative Rules define criteria and procedures for the imposition of sanctions for cause, including termination of appointment (OAR 580-21-320 through 580-21-375). If such a sanction is to be imposed, the faculty member is entitled to a formal hearing of charges by a hearing committee to be selected from a faculty panel that has been duly established. Nominees for each new panel are randomly selected. Faculty Panels for Hearing Committees are elected on even numbered years.
      Ballots will be distributed at the meeting; balloting for ten primary members will be limited to Senators or their official representatives.

  2. REPORT FROM AND DIALOG WITH THE PROVOST
      Sabah Randhawa, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and International Programs

  3. DISCUSSION ITEM
    1. Graduate Council
      Lynda Ciuffetti, Graduate Council Chair, will present issues related to graduate education.

  4. COMMITTEE REPORT
    1. Library Committee
      Ken Winograd, Library Committee Chair, will outline ongoing issues with journal costs. A comprehensive report has been prepared by the Wellcome Trust titled An Economic Analysis of Scientific Research Publishing.

  5. SPECIAL REPORTS
    1. Athletics
      Bob DeCarolis, Athletic Director, and Bob Frank, Faculty Athletic Representative, will provide an athletics update.

    2. Interinstitutional Faculty Senate
      Mina Carson, IFS Senator, will report briefly on the April IFS meeting.

  6. INFORMATION ITEM
    1. Athletic Resolution
      The athletic resolution presented at the April Faculty Senate meeting has been forwarded to the Athletic Advisory Committee for their review and comments.

  7. REPORT FROM AND DIALOG WITH THE FACULTY SENATE PRESIDENT
      President Stella Coakley

  8. NEW BUSINESS

IN ORDER TO PROPERLY RECORD MINUTES OF THE SENATE MEETING,
ALL SENATORS ARE REMINDED TO IDENTIFY THEMSELVES
AND THEIR SENATE AFFILIATION WHEN RISING TO SPEAK.
