The agenda for the January Senate meeting will include the reports and other items of business listed below.
A. ACTION ITEMS
- Install Elected Officials
Installation of President Stella Coakley and President-Elect Mina McDaniel;
new Executive Committee members: Mike Quinn, Tony Trujillo, and John Westall;
Interinstitutional Faculty Senate Senator, Kelvin Koong; and newly elected
Senators.
- Category I Proposal
Charles Boyer, Curriculum Council Co-chair, will present the
Master of Arts Degree in Contemporary Hispanic Studies Category I proposal for approval;
liaison letters are also posted.
B. SPECIAL REPORT
- Interinstitutional Faculty Senate
IFS Senator Mina Carson will report on issues discussed during the recent IFS meeting.
C. COMMITTEE REPORT
- Faculty Economic Welfare & Retirement Committee
Mina Carson, Chair, or Bruce Sorte, Immediate Past Senate President, will
present information related to progress in addressing the Optional Retirement Plan
(ORP) issues.
D. INFORMATION ITEMS
- Faculty Senate Reception
All Senators are invited to a reception immediately following the January
Faculty Senate meeting in the LaSells Stewart Center Myrtle Tree Alcove.
- Faculty Senate Calendar
Faculty Senate meetings for 2004 have been scheduled from 3:00-5:00 PM on the
dates indicated below. Currently, all meetings are scheduled in the
LaSells Stewart Center Construction and Engineering Hall, but Senators are
advised to check the monthly agenda to determine the meeting site.

- New Senator Orientation
All newly elected Senators, and those who have not previously attended
a New Senator Orientation, are invited to attend the session scheduled for
January 8, 2004 from 1:00-2:50 in the LaSells Stewart Center Ag. Production
Room, immediately preceding the January Faculty Senate meeting. Please contact
the Faculty Senate Office at

if you plan to attend the Orientation and have not previously submitted an RSVP.
- Faculty Senate Handbook
Faculty Senate Handbook
materials can be found on the
Faculty Senate web site.
Since experience has shown that the majority of Senators do not use the
updated materials, and since the web site is frequently updated, hard copies
of the Faculty Senate Handbook are no longer being distributed. The web site
contains information about Senators, committees, agendas, minutes, etc.
- Election Do's and Don'ts
A reminder of what state employees may and may not do in relation to advocacy
for or against ballot measures or candidates. In addition to being posted on the
web, this information and ORS 260.432
will be available in hard copy at the meeting.
- 2004 Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration
The Celebration begins on Monday, January 12 and ends Friday, January 23. The 2004
theme is "Building the Dream: Reaching Each Other, Teaching Each Other."
There are events every day or evening, planned and sponsored by members of the 2004
Celebration Steering Committee comprised of students, staff and faculty.
The 22nd Annual Peace Breakfast will be held on Monday, January 19, 7:30 a.m. in the
MU Ballroom. Tickets are $6.00 for students (of all ages), $10.00 for non-students,
and no charge for children 5 and under. Faculty and staff are encouraged to sponsor a
student's breakfast. The keynote speaker for the breakfast is Minty Jeffry of Seattle,
who is a poet, playwright, and the co-founder and co-owner of the prize-winning magazine,
Colors NW.
