FACULTY SENATE AGENDA

The agenda for the October Senate meeting will include the reports and other items of business listed below.
 
    A. ACTION ITEMS

    Standing Rules Revisions
    Proposed Standing Rules revisions for the following committees will be presented: Academic Advising Council, Academic Requirements Committee, Faculty Status Committee, Graduate Admissions Committee, and Student Recognition and Awards Committee.

    B. COMMITTTEE REPORT

    Bylaws and Nominations Committee
    Nancy Rosenberger, Chair, will discuss the nomination process for Faculty Senate President-Elect and Executive Committee, and Interinstitutional Faculty Senators.

    C. SPECIAL REPORT

    Depression and Suicide in College Students - Signs and Symptoms
    Suicide is the second leading cause of death in college student populations. Ross Artwohl, MSW, a staff therapist with University Counseling & Psychological Services, will provide information to assist Senators in recognizing the warning signs of suicide, and its correlate, depression. Suggestions on how to intervene and where to refer the student-at-risk will be provided.

    D. INFORMATION ITEMS
  1. Faculty Senate Fall Elections
    Nancy Rosenberger, Bylaws and Nominations Committee Chair, is accepting recommendations for 1) President-Elect, 2) Executive Committee members, and 3) Interinstitutional Faculty Senate Senator. Executive Committee nominees must be a current Senator and President-Elect nominees must have been a Senator. Nominations may be forwarded to the Faculty Senate Office via electronic mail at faculty.senate@orst.edu. Deadline for nominations is October 9.
    NOTE: If Senators wish to make a nomination from the floor at the November meeting, they must have received prior approval from the nominee.


  2. Faculty Senate Calendar
    Please reserve the following dates for Faculty Senate meetings during academic year 2003-2004; check your monthly agenda to determine the location. All meetings are scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM: November 6, 2003; December 4, 2003; January 8, 2004; February 5, 2004; March 4, 2004; April 1, 2004; May 6, 2004; and June 3, 2004.

E. REPORT FROM AND DIALOG WITH THE PROVOST

F. REPORT FROM AND DIALOG WITH THE FACULTY SENATE PRESIDENT

    Among the items President Bruce Sorte will talk about is a Fixed-Term Task Force, Extension issues, etc.


G. NEW BUSINESS

IN ORDER TO PROPERLY RECORD MINUTES OF THE SENATE MEETING,
ALL SENATORS ARE REMINDED TO IDENTIFY THEMSELVES
AND THEIR SENATE AFFILIATION WHEN RISING TO SPEAK.
