- Admission Policy Symposium
Over the past several years, the Undergraduate Admission Criteria Issue Group has
conducted a detailed analysis of OSU's undergraduate admission policies. Since late
November recommended policy changes have been reviewed with a number of campus groups.
Recommendations in this area are based on the research and practices of William
Sedlacek, Professor of Education at the University of Maryland. Dr. Sedlacek has been
invited to campus to discuss his research and experience, and to inform the ongoing
development of OSU's undergraduate admission policies.
All members of the campus community are invited to participate in an Admission Policy
Symposium featuring Dr. Sedlacek. The following sessions will be held:
Monday, March 10
Campus Forum 1
10:30-12:00, MU 213
Overview of undergraduate admission policy proposals and key planning issues, including
the consideration of non-cognitive variables.
Target audience: Persons who wish to learn about policy proposals and the rationale
behind them.
Campus Forum 2
3:30-5:00, MU 213
Considering Non-Cognitive Variables in University Admissions:
Relevant Research and Statistical Analysis
Target audience: Persons with a special interest in the nature of Dr. Sedlacek's
research on non-cognitive variables and, including research methodology and statistical
analysis.

Considering Non-Cognitive Variables in University Admissions:
Tools for Implementation
Target audience: Persons involved in admission or scholarship selections or who have a
special interest in the implementation of processes using non-cognitive factors. The
workshop will include case studies and exercises that illustrate the use of
non-cognitive variables in practical terms.

As outlined in previous communications, the nomination process has changed this year
and nomination forms must be requested from the Faculty Senate Office. Nominations
submitted following previous years guidelines will not be accepted.
