AGENDA

1. Install Elected Officials
Installation of President-Elect Bruce Sorte; new Executive Committee members: Dianne Erickson, Angelo Gomez, and Janet Nishihara; Interinstitutional Faculty Senate Senator, Dan Edge; and newly-elected Senators.

2. Approval of Parliamentarian
Approval of Robert Iltis, Department of Speech Communication, as Faculty Senate Parliamentarian.

3. Resolution on Terrorism
President Rosenberger will present for approval a Resolution on Terrorism.

1. Student Evaluation of Teaching Instrument
Ray William, Advancement of Teaching Committee Chair, will present recommendations and sample questions to revise the Student Evaluation of Teaching Instrument.

2. Service or Business Centers
The concept of Service or Business Centers was discussed in the Redesign Team's presentation in late November. These Service Centers would be intermediate between central administration and college/departmental administration. Although the concept is vague and the intent of this change is administrative in nature, faculty should contribute to the thinking on this subject because it will affect services to faculty and students at the departmental level. The intent is to centralize services such as travel, grant administration, personnel, budget planning, performance appraisals, advising and graduation audits, etc. These business centers would each serve several colleges; college groupings have not been decided. The Faculty Senate can contribute at this point by giving input on several questions:

• What are the benefits and disadvantages of business/service centers? What functions could be shifted and what functions should not be shifted?
• How would students and faculty at the departmental level be affected?

3. Modem Pool Elimination
Curt Pederson, Jon Dolan and Jim Corbett will present information about the impending elimination of the modem pool to all but students in the context of the financial situation in Information Services.

1. Faculty Senate Calendar
Faculty Senate meetings for 2002 have been scheduled from 3:00-5:00 PM on the dates indicated below. At this point, all meetings are scheduled to be held in the LaSells Stewart Center Construction and Engineering Hall, but Senators are advised to check the monthly agenda to determine the meeting site.

2. New Senator Orientation
All newly elected Senators and those who have not previously attended a New Senator Orientation are invited to attend the session scheduled for January 10 from 1:00-2:50 in the LaSells Stewart Center Agriculture Production Room.

3. Library Committee Decision on June 2001 Referred Item
At the June 2001 Faculty Senate meeting, a Senator requested that the Valley Library's policy of handling recalls of books be revised. The request was forwarded to the Library Committee who reviewed the issue and recommends that current policy be maintained, although they encourage the Circulation staff make more widely known the informal practice of directly contacting holders of recalled books when a particular book is urgently needed. 4. Faculty Senate Handbook Update
Faculty Senate Handbook materials have been updated and can be found on the Senate web site. Since experience has shown that the majority of Senators do not use the updated materials, and since the web site is frequently updated, hard copies of the Handbook are no longer being distributed. The web site contains information about Senators, committees, agendas, minutes, etc.

5. Senators Electronic Discussion List
At the request of several faculty, an electronic discussion list has been created to facilitate discussion among faculty about issues of interest regarding Oregon State University. All subscribers will receive copies of each message posted.

6. Faculty Senate Reception
All Senators are invited to attend the Faculty Senate Reception immediately following the January Senate meeting from 5:00-6:00 PM in the LaSells Stewart Center Myrtle Tree Alcove. We hope you will be able to join us and to welcome the new Senators.
