The agenda for the June Senate meeting will include the reports and other items of business listed below. To be approved are the minutes of the May Senate meeting, as published and distributed to Senators. Blue areas below indicate links relevant to the agenda item.
A. ACTION ITEMS
1. Consideration of Degree Candidates

Barbara Balz, Registrar, will present the recommended lists of degree candidates for Senior Honors, Baccalaureate Degree Candidates, and Advanced Degrees. The Faculty Senate is asked to approve these candidates on behalf of the Faculty of the University. These candidates have been certified by the appropriate academic units, committees, and councils. Attached is the Registrar's Memorandum that outlines the policies and procedures for the review and approval for degree candidates.
2. Standing Rules Changes - Computing Resources Committee

Flaxen Conway, Committee on Committees Chair, will present Standing Rules changes (below) to increase the membership of the Computing Resources Committee (bold indicates the proposed change; brackets indicates the proposed deletion).

The Committee shall consist of [six] nine Faculty, at least [four] six
of whom must be teaching faculty, ...

3. Category | Proposal

Bob Burton, Curriculum Council ex-officio, will present the Proposal for the Initiation of New Instructional Programs leading to M.S. and Ph.D. Degrees in Bioengineering.

4. PEBB Motions

Robert Schwartz, Faculty Economic Welfare and Retirement Committee (FEW&RC) member, will present three motions related to PEBB. The first two motions are endorsed by both the Faculty Senate Executive Committee and the FEW&RC; the third motion is endorsed by the FEW&RC, but not by the Executive Committee:

a. The OSU Faculty Senate urges OUS to continue exploring the possibility of becoming independent from PEBB in order to obtain the best benefit package for the least cost.

b. The OSU Faculty Senate urges the OSU administration to continue to seek ways to preserve the incentives created by the cash back options of PEBB insurance plans.

c. The Faculty Senate of Oregon State University urges the OSU and OUS administrations to continue the single rate contribution to health care benefits regardless of family status.


B. SPECIAL REPORTS
1. Budget

Jock Mills, Director of Government Relations, will present a prognosis as the 2001 Legislative Session comes to an end.
2. Intellectual Property Policy and Distance Education

Bill Winner, Issue Group on Intellectual Property Policy and Distance Education Chair, will present their final report and recommendations.

C. COMMITTEE REPORTS
1. Advancement of Teaching

Hans van der Mars, Advancement of Teaching Chair, will report on ongoing efforts aimed at changing the Student Assessment of Teaching instrument. Preliminary information used in preparing the recommendations can be found on the web at: http://osu.orst.edu/dept/senate/aot.evaldraft.htm. By visiting this website, you will be able to click on the University of Washington website that offers access to the proposed assessment forms.
2. Computing Resources Committee

Bill Uzgalis, Computing Resources Committee Chair, will present a status of activities and committee recommendations.

D. INFORMATION ITEMS
1. Annual Reports

Annual committee/council reports submitted by Faculty Senate chairs are due July 15 to allow committees/councils to fully report their activities through June 30. Annual reports will be published on the Faculty Senate website at: http://osu.orst.edu/dept/senate/comm.htm
2. Vacancies

Please notify the Faculty Senate Office if a sabbatic or leave will prevent you from completing your term as either a Senator or Faculty Senate committee/council member. If you are gone more than one term, exclusive of summer term, a replacement is required. This information will assist us in identifying a replacement.
