1. Graduate School Review
President Matzke will lead a discussion of what value-added do we want from a Graduate School in the 21st century. Senators are referred to the Graduate School Review Team Report and should solicit the opinion of their colleagues concerning the role of the Graduate School at OSU. Are there additional perspectives from those reflected in the report? All faculty (not just Senators) are invited to participate in this discussion.

1. University Goals
Toby Hayes, Vice Provost for Research, will report on top tier concerns as they relate to the University Goals.
1. Faculty Awards Deadlines
February 5 is the deadline for submitting nominations for the OSU Distinguished Service Award and March 6 is the deadline for submitting nominations for the following awards: D. Curtis Mumford Faculty Service Award, OSU Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award, Elizabeth P. Ritchey Distinguished Professor Award, Dar Reese Excellence in Advising Award, Richard M. Bressler Senior Faculty Teaching Award, OSU Extended Education Faculty Achievement Award and Outstanding Faculty Research Assistant Award.
Criteria for these awards may be obtained from the Faculty Senate Office or on the Faculty Individual Awards web site. Nominations are to be submitted to the Faculty Recognition and Awards Committee, in care of the Faculty Senate Office.
2. Faculty Workshops
Educational theorist and activist Parker Palmer will give two faculty workshops at OSU on "The Recovery of Community in Higher Education: Focus on Teaching and Learning." The workshops will be held in the CH2M HILL Alumni Center on Tuesday, February 8, 1:30 - 4:30 PM, and on Wednesday, February 9, 9:00 AM - noon. To sign up for one of these faculty workshops, contact Leslie Burns.
Palmer will also be giving a free public lecture on Tuesday, February 8, at 7:00 PM in the LaSells Stewart Center on "The Courage to Teach: Exploring the Inner Landscape of a Teacher's Life."
3. Annual Reports
The 1998-99 Graduate Admissions Committee Annual Report has been received and posted on the web.
4. OSU CONNECT 2000 - September 20 through September 24
OSU CONNECT is the second step in Oregon State University's three-step process in orienting new students to campus. In order to create a coordinated OSU CONNECT program, proposals are being solicited from any unit or program wanting to be part of this exciting event. A Request For Proposals (RFP) package for new or existing programs, as well as the CONNECT program draft are available online.
