Removing Spyware

Spyware software sends information about your Web surfing habits to its Web site. It is often quickly installed in your computer in combination with a free download you selected from the Web. It transmits information in the background as you move around the Web and it can be responsible for a wide range of problems, including pop–ups, system slow–down, and network failure. Also known as adware, parasite software, scumware, junkware and thiefware, spyware is occasionally installed just by visiting a Web site.

Spybot–Search & Destroy Lavasoft Ad–Aware, and Windows Defender are programs that take an active approach to removing spyware from your computer. Spyware is often installed without your knowledge when you install other programs. These two programs complement each other by each finding spyware the other will not, and using them can drastically reduce the number of spyware problems you suffer.
