Connecting to ONID Shares
In addition to your @onid.orst.edu email address, ONID
provides a network file store that can be accessed from your
room and from on campus computer labs.
Windows Vista
Access your web storage on ONID
- Click the START circle at the bottom left of the desktop.
- Right click the network button.

- Select the option labeled Map Network Drive...
- In the field labeled Folder: type: \\onid-fs.onid.oregonstate.edu\public_html
- If you wish, you can change the drive letter that your ONID space will be assigned to by selecting a different drive letter from the drop-down menu.

- After you've typed the folder name you can then click on the link titled Connect using a different user name
- In the dialog box that appears, insert ONID\YourUserName into the username field. Replace the words YourUsername with your actual ONID username.
- Enter your ONID password and press OK.

- Click finish. A Windows Explorer box will then be shown containing the files present on your ONID webspace.
In the future, you should not need to repeat this process. Your ONID files will be available anytime you are connected to the ResNet network.
This means that when you want to access your files in the future, you simply need to open My Computer and click the drive letter that you assigned to your files in step five.

Windows 2000/XP
Access your web storage on ONID
- Click Start » Run
- type: \\onid-fs\public_html
- At the Enter Network Password window enter your username
Connect As: ONID\username
Password: ********
Note: Make sure to check Remember my password.

Access your file storage on ONID
- Start Button » Run

type: \\onid-fs\username
username is your ONID username

At the Enter Network Password window enter your username
Connect As: ONID\username
Password: ********
Note: Make sure to check Remember my password.
Windows 95/98/ME
- Start Button » Settings » Control Panel » Double click on Network icon

- Set your "Primary Network Logon" to be "Client for Microsoft Networks".
- Select "Client for Microsoft Networks"
- Click on the "Properties" button

- Check the "Log on to Windows NT domain" and type in ONID in the box
- Make sure "Quick Logon" is select
- Click the "Ok" button
- Click on the "Identification Tab" at the top
- Type a unique name for "Computer Name"
- type ResNet for "Workgroup"

Click the "Ok" button, Click "Ok" again, restart the compute
when asked, your Windows CD may be required.

After your computer restarts, you will be asked to logon to your computer
Type your ONID Username for "User name"
Type your ONID Password for "Password"
"Domain" should already say ONID, so don't change it » Click "Ok"
If Windows ask you to Confirm your password, leave both passwords blank » Click "Ok"
Access your web storage on ONID
- Start Button » Run » type "\\onid-fs\\public_html" without the quotes
Access your file storage on ONID

Start Button » Run » type "\\onid-fs\\username"
username is your ONID username, without the quotes
Mac OS X
- Apple Menu » System Preferences
- Network Control Panel » AppleTalk tab
- Select "Built-in Ethernet" from the Configure menu
- Check the box labeled "Make AppleTalk Active".
- Select "Residential Network" for the AppleTalk Zone
- Select "Automatically" for the Configure in the middle of the window

Click on the "Save" button
- From the desktop, select the "Go" menu » then "Connect to Server"
- Type "onid-fs.onid.orst.edu" in to the Address box at the bottom of the window
- Click the "Connect" button
- Login using your ONID username & password » Click "Connect"
- Select the volume you wish to mount to your desktop » Click "OK"
- Your network drive will appear on your desktop

Drag the network icon to the trash to log off the ONID network
(Note: this will not disconnect your internet connection)
