To work on ResNet, you computer needs to be configured to use
DHCP
If you used Cable or DSL at home, your computer may be configured
improperly. Follow the appropriate instructions for you Operation
System.
Click the Start circle at the bottom left of your screen and right click the network button.
Press the properties button and wait for the Network and Sharing Center screen to appear.
To the right of the words "Local Area Connection" there will be a link titled "View Status". Click it.
Click the 'Properties' button
When the properties box appears, select the option titled "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and press the properties button.
Ensure that both the "Obtain an IP address automatically" and the "Obtain DNS server address automatically" options have a blue dot in the circles to their left.
Lastly, confirm your selection by pressing the OK button and closing all open windows.
Windows XP
Start » Control Panel » Network and Internet Connections » Network Connection
or
Start » Settings » Network Connections
Right mouse button click on Local Area Connection and select Properties.
Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the white box
Click the 'Properties' button
Verify that the default "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected and click "OK."
Click "OK" on the Local Area Connection Properties window
Windows 2000
Start Button » Settings » Control Panel » Double Click on the "Network and Dial-up Connections" icon
Right mouse button click on your Local Area Connection » Select "Properties"
Select TCP/IP in the white box (if there are multiple TCP/IP options, select the one that has your Ethernet Adapter listed after it)
Click on the Properties button
Verify that "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected
Click the "Ok" button » Click the "Close" button in the Network Control Panel
Then say Yes to restarting your computer if asked, your Windows CD may be required
Windows 95/98/ME
Start Button » Settings » Control Panel » Double Click on the Network icon
Select the TCP/IP in the white box (if there are multiple TCP/IP options, select the one that has your Ethernet Adapter listed after it)
Click on the Properties button
Select IP Address tab
Verify that "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected
Click the "Ok" button » Click "OK" again in the Network Control Panel
Then say Yes to restarting your computer, your Windows cd will likely be needed
Mac OS X
Make sure your ethernet cable is plugged into the orange jack in the wall
Apple Menu » System Preferences
Network Control Panel » TCP/IP Tab
Select "Built-in Ethernet" from the Configure menu located above the tabs
Select "Using DHCP" from the lower Configure menu
Click "Save" in the lower corner of the window
Mac OS 9
Make sure your ethernet cable is plugged into the orange jack in the wall
Apple Menu » Control Panels » TCP/IP Control Panel
Select Ethernet from the "Connect via" drop down
Select Using DHCP Server (Bootp Server should also work). from the "Configure" drop down
