Ethernet Network Adapter


Your computer will need an Ethernet network adapter to work on ResNet. An Ethernet network adapter is similar to a modem but is used for directly connecting to high-speed or broadband networks. If you currently using DSL or cable modem you computer already has a network adapter.

How to tell if your computer has an Ethernet Network Adapter

Windows XP

  1. Click Start » Control Panel » Network and Internet Connections » Network Connection
    or
    Start » Settings » Network Connections
       
  2. If you do not have a Local Area Connection icon as show below then you either do not have a network adapter or it is improperly installed.

Windows 2000

  1. Click Start » Settings » Control Panel » Double Click on the Network and Dial-up Connections icon
  2. If you do not have a Local Area Connection icon as show below then you either do not have a network adapter or it is improperly installed.

Windows 95/98/ME

  1. Click Start » Settings » Control Panel » Double Click on the Network icon
  2. Your device should be listed in the white box.
    The "3Com Fast Ethernet XL ..." shown below is an example of what yours might resemble.
  3. If you do not have a similar device as the one shown below you either do not have an ethernet adapter install or it is improperly installed.
