Biosynthetic Gene Cluster for

The Peptide Antibiotic Enduracidin

Reference IDOSU-06-38

Inventors: Dr. Mark Zabriske, Dr. Xihou Yin

Description:  A variety of methods can be used to genetically manipulate the nucleic acid sequence encoding the enduracidin biosynthetic gene cluster in order to alter enduracidin production.

This invention describes the molecular cloning of the enduracidin biosynthetic gene cluster from Steptomyces fungidicus and the characterization of the individual genes in the gene cluster and the proteins encoded. Biosynthetic gene clusters facilitate a molecular genetics approach to generate novel peptides.

Applications: Enduracidins analogs with improved biological and pharmacological properties

have been broadly used as animal food additives in Japan, China and other countries of Eastern Asia
