The OSU- EPA Training Cooperative Partnership provides students with opportunities to work closely with OSU faculty and EPA scientists at the Western Ecology Division in Corvallis and the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport. This EPA grant-supported program supports 20-30 students each year to work as undergraduate interns or graduate assistants on laboratory and field research focused on terrestrial, aquatic, or coastal ecosystems. The program pairs students with senior research scientists, to increase the effectiveness and number of future independent scientists who can conduct environmental and ecological research. For many undergraduate students, it provides the first opportunity to experience field and laboratory research. For graduate students, it encourages a high level of professional development, including the production of peer-reviewed publications and the opportunity to attend scientific conferences. One goal of the partnership is to provide research opportunities for students from historically underrepresented groups.
