| OFFICE OF RESEARCH INTEGRITY |
Oregon State University's research community has the responsibility to ensure the humane treatment of animals in research. Recognizing this responsibility, Public Health Service Policy (Sec. IV. C. 1. f) and the Animal Welfare Act (Sec. 2.32 {a}& {b}) implemented a requirement for research institutions to certify training in the ethical use of animals in research. Endorsing the goals of such training, OSU and the IACUC require all faculty, staff, and students who use or work with live vertebrate animals in research or teaching to complete training in the regulations and principles of humane animal care and use.
The IACUC maintains a database of those who have completed required training.
Documentation of completion of this training will be required for a Principal Investigator on a grant or Instructors in a course prior to review and approval of an Animal Care and Use Proposal. All other personnel on a project must complete the training within three months and before they engage in any animal use.
LATA
Education is accessible via web-based modules through Laboratory Animal Training Association (LATA) LATA training link. Completion of the base module (The Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals) satisfies the educational requirement.
