The Center for the Humanities, established in 1984, is primarily concerned with the advancement of interdisciplinary humanities research and scholarship.

The Center hosts visiting scholars as well as Oregon State University faculty members engaged in research projects from the full range of the Humanities disciplines. In addition to pursuing their scholarly projects, the Center’s Research Fellows give public lectures and working-paper seminars, forming the basis of the Center’s public programs. An Advisory Board composed of faculty from throughout the campus selects the Research Fellows for the coming year in a process of competitive project proposals.

The center also hosts or co-sponsors research conferences, seminars, lectures, and other public programs on campus that are relevant to the Humanities. In addition, the Center’s building, Autzen House, serves as an informal art gallery, sponsoring two to three exhibitions of visual arts each academic year. The Center's fundamental mission is to support and highlight research and scholarship in the Humanities at Oregon State University.
