The Incentive Funds Program in the Research Office is requesting Letters of Intent for the National Science Foundation – International Research Network Connections Program Area 1: Production Network Connections and Services (IRNC:ProNet).

Research Office Letter of Intent submission deadline: Monday, June 22, 2009 (5:00 PM)

NSF Full Proposal Deadline:
August 21, 2009

Information:  Debbie Delmore at debbie.delmore@oregonstate.edu or 737-8390

The program limits to three (3) the number of proposals that can be submitted by Oregon State University to the IRNC Program Area 1: Production Network Connections and Services (IRNC:ProNet).

In an effort to provide the highest level of excellence and viability for funding, the Faculty Senate Research Council will review all Letters of Intent and rank order them for the Vice President for Research. The finalists will be asked to represent Oregon State University and to submit their proposals to the NSF-IRNC:ProNet program.

The United States research and education community communicates, cooperates, and collaborates with colleagues in the global community. Members of this community access remote instruments, data, and computational resources located throughout the world, often as part of international collaborations. Similarly, major NSF investments in large-scale science and engineering facilities located both inside and outside the United States are utilized by multi-national research and education collaborations. To support such activities, NSF solicits proposals for International Research Network Connections (IRNC).

This program supports international research network connections across three areas: Production network environments (IRNC:ProNet) [organizational limit 3]; Experimental networking activities in support of cyber-science applications (IRNC:Exp) [no organizational limit]; and special projects including advanced network development, deployment, security, monitoring, and other approaches (IRNC:SP) [no organizational limit].

Guidance for preparation of Letters of Intent to the Research Office:

  • Title of Project
  • PI/Co-PI
  • Program Area 1: IRNC:ProNet
  • Describe the overall system design of the proposed project including: connection plans on both ends of the international links; (briefly) the networks to be connected, and the technical characteristics of the IRNC links; routing and switching strategies; and relevant timelines for technology deployment and service activation.
  • Proposed budget to be funded by NSF.
  • Be limited to three (3) pages.
  • Be submitted electronically as a MS Word or PDF document to: debbie.delmore@oregonstate.edu
