Faculty and OSU Employees
All faculty, including emeriti and adjunct or courtesy faculty, are eligible for the duration of their appointment. All employees of the university, including student employees and graduate assistants, are eligible from the beginning of their employment through their last day of work.
OSU Associates
All official OSU Associates are eligible during the course of their official association with the university. For further information about the OSU Associates program, see the ID Center Website or visit the center in B094 Kerr Administration Building.
You sign up for an ONID account from the ONID home page, which you can access from the OSU home page. Or, you can access the ONID home page directly. Before you sign up:
Make sure you are eligible for an ONID account. Make sure that you know your GAP (General Access Pin). Get a piece of paper so you can write down your account info (your e-mail, web, and ftp addresses)
If you’ve done the above, you’re ready to go:
Click on the "Sign up for ONID" link on the ONID home page. Enter your OSU ID number and GAP on the screen that displays, and then click "Submit." Follow the on-screen instructions.
The GAP that you use to access your ONID account is the same GAP that you use for access to Online Services for registration. If you cannot sign up for ONID because of a problem with your GAP, you need to determine if your GAP is valid. If it is not, you will have to re-set your GAP.
One way to check your GAP is to log on to Online Services. If your GAP allows you to log on to Online Services (from the OSU home page), then your GAP is valid. If you cannot log on to Online Services because of an incorrect GAP, then you can also re-set your GAP from Online Services as well.
If you have changed your GAP recently, ONID will need 5–10 minutes to recognize the new GAP. If your GAP is correct, but ONID is not recognizing it, then you can call the ONID OSU Computer Helpdesk at 737-3474.
If you have forgotten your GAP, or if for some reason it is no longer valid, you can re-set it from the Online Services Login Page. Go to the OSU home page, click on the Online Services link, and then click on the "Forgot GAP?" button. The question that you entered the first time you changed your GAP will be displayed. By entering the correct answer and completing the re-set procedures, you can reset your GAP to your birth date and then change it to a new number (not your birth date). REMEMBER: Each time you reset your GAP to your birth date (mmddyy format), that resetting is valid only to allow you to log in and change the GAP to a number.
If you cannot re-set your GAP with the "FORGOT GAP?" button, then contact the appropriate office.
Once you have set up the ONID account, you will need to remember your username and your password to log in to the account. Both the username and the password are given to you when you set up the ONID account.
If you forget your ONID password, log onto the ONID home page and click on the Change Password link. There are instructions for users who have forgotten their ONID password.
