Youth Access Guidelines

 

The following policies governing youth participation in the Department of Recreational Sports are strictly enforced:

Ages 0-7

  • Must be accompanied by a participating adult (age 18 or older) at all times
  • May only participate in Family Swim or Family Climb Programs

Ages 8-15

  • Must be accompanied by a participating adult (age 18 or older) at all times
  • May only participate in Family Swim, Family Climb and during Youth Access Hours
  • May only take part in non-contact, non-competitive, individual sports such as badminton, pickle ball, table tennis, racquetball, squash, tennis, wally ball, and non-competitive basketball, soccer or volleyball
  • May not use the weight rooms, cardio rooms, or speed bag room and may not use mechanical or combative equipment

Ages 16 and older

  • May use the facilities unaccompanied by an adult
  • May use all facilities during open hours; academic year and breaks
  • Are not eligible for most services, programs, trips or classes with the exception of specifically designed, age-appropriate programs.

 

Youth Passes

Adult RecSports members and non-members of the OSU Community who are age 18 or older may purchase the following passes for youth, ages 0-15:

  • Single Family Swim Pass (Ages 0-15) - $3 each
  • Single Family Climb Pass (Ages 0-15) - $3 each
  • Single Daily Guest Pass (Ages 8-15) - $3 each
  • Family Swim Pass (10) - $25
  • Family Climb Pass (10) - $25
  • Family Swim Pass (20) - $40
  • Family Climb Pass (20) - $40

Adult non-members who accompany youth for participation in Family Swim, Family Climb or Youth Access Hours are also required to purchase a Daily Pass ($7) for themselves

 

Family Swim

The following supervision limits and guidelines for family swim time will be strictly enforced:

  • Must be accompanied by a participating adult (age 18 or older) at all times
  • May only participate during Family Swim Hours
  • If a child is not able to move in the water without feet touching the bottom or needs to wear a life-jacket, the child is considered a non-swimmer. Only three “non-swimmers” per adult and the adult must be in the water within arms reach of the children.
  • Only five “swimmers” per adult and the adult must be able to directly observe the children.
  • Babies are allowed in the pool with plastic swim diapers

 

Family Climb

The following supervision limits and guidelines for family climb time will be strictly enforced:

  • Kids under 16 are allowed to climb during family climb time.
  • All participants under 18 must have a youth waiver on file signed by their parent or legal gaurdian. This waiver expires after one year.
  • Participants under 16 cannot belay and must be accompanied by a belay certified adult at all times.
  • Only two participants under 16 are allowed per certified adult.
  • Children under eight must be under direct supervision by a certified adult at all times (within arms reach).

 

Youth Access Hours

For the safety of all participants, youth participation in the Department of Recreational Sports is limited to the following specific hours and activities:
