In spring 2006, the ASOSU Senates allocated $750,000 of the Raising Reser Funds for the development of the proposed Student Recreational Sports Complex located on the existing Intramural Sports Field.
In 2007, the Board of Recreational Sports, Student Incidental Fees Committee, and the ASOSU Senates requested further refinement of the plan. Schematic Design was completed by Cameron, McCarthy, Gilbert & Scheibe Landscape Architects fall term 2007.
The OSU Campus Plan Committee approved in November 2007 the Schematic Design and development of the Intramural Sports Field location. View Master Plan
The proposed project includes: View Perspectives
· In-Fill Synthetic Turf Fields for 3 full-size Soccer/Rugby/Lacrosse Fields, or six Intramural Sports Flag Football/Soccer Fields, or 3 Intramural Sports Softball Fields
· Seven newly constructed and relocated tennis courts
· Relocation of the entrances into the Tennis Pavilion
· Outdoor basketball court and picnic area
· A Central Plaza for special event management all surrounded by a natural grass park-like setting
The projected cost of the full build-out of the project is $6.1 million.
The project will incorporate the needs of the OSU community: Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Physical Activities Courses & other needs of the College of Health & Human Sciences, campus organizations, university special events, and general student use through a coordinated and structured use policy. Use of the Complex will extend to year-a-round activities, unrestricted by inclement weather conditions.
In the next several months, there will meetings with student groups and others to determine the interest of students in their support of this project. If deemed significant, a funding plan may be proposed which could include financing of the project by students resources.
