The Climbing Center offers something fun for all levels of experience, is open to the general public and is free for OSU students and RecSports members. All necessary equipment is provided free for check out to participants, including harness, ropes, belay devices and carabiners. We offer climbing shoe rentals for $1 per person. We also sell chalk balls.






BELAY SKILLS CHECKS (Required Annually)

This 90-minute class introduces you to the climbing center and teaches you belay skills. Sessions are for up to six participants – first come; first served. Classes are offered twice daily, see the term schedule for times.

 

EQUIPMENT

All necessary equipment is provided for free check out to participants, including harness, ropes, belay devices and carabiners. We offer climbing shoe rentals for $1 per person. We also sell chalk balls.

 

DROP-IN ACTIVITIES

 

Family Climb Time

Academic Year: Saturday and Sunday 1:00-5:00pm. Summer Term and Breaks: Family Climb is available all hours of operation

The following supervision limits and guidelines will be strictly enforced:

• Must be accompanied by a participating adult at all times

• Children in the ICC must be under control of and within arms reach of the supervising adult when not climbing.

• Youth under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian sign a youth waiver on a yearly basis

• Youth under the age of 8 are not allowed to spot for bouldering or to belay.

•Only two children per parent or adult guardian

•The parent or adult guardian must be belay-certified in the ICC and belay the child(ren) at all times

 

 

Open Bouldering

Bouldering is available in the Climbing Center whenever the building is open and there are not scheduled programs. A weekly facility schedule is posted outside the Climbing Center and on the website.

When bouldering or climbing during open climbing hours you must be belay skill certified (classes offered twice daily). When the ICC is closed for top-rope climbing, you only need a signed waiver to boulder.

Lead Climbing Times

Climbers who have passed the Lead Climbing Certification class are allowed to lead at the supervisor’s discretion whenever the gym is open. Prerequisites: Gym lead climb certified.

Teen Night

Parents, drop your teenagers (ages 14-17 only) off at the Climbing Center for a night of climbing fun! Participants will learn to belay between 7-8pm and spend the rest of their night climbing with friends! All necessary equipment is provided; shoes may be rented for an additional $1.00. Parental permission slip required, pick one up at the Climbing Center or print off the waiver from the RecSports website in the Climbing Center section.

 

SPECIAL SERVICES & EVENTS

El Cap Club

Find a partner and log 3000ft of vertical in the Climbing Center and gain entrance into the El Cap Club. This club is reserved for chauches or anyone who is looking for an excuse to log some serious time on a rope. Sign up with a friend and if you get to 3000ft together you both will score a sweet shirt! Prizes await the teams who finish first!

Private Climbing Instruction

This opportunity is for beginner to intermediate climbers who want to fine-tune their skills with an experienced climber to coach them one-on-one. (541)737-4341

 

Vert Fest

Corvallis’ only indoor climbing competition!

The Vert Fest Indoor Climbing Competition is February 23rd, 2008. There are divisions for men, women and kids from beginner through expert climbers; the Vert Fest offers a great day of climbing and excellent prizes. All ages and abilities are welcome. Registration forms will be out in January.

 

POLICIES & GUIDELINES

Entry, Eligibility and Ages:

Community members aged 16 and older are allowed to climb during operation hours without sponsorship by parent/guardian or sponsoring adult. All participants aged 16 and older must pass a belay skills test and sign a liability waiver (Those under 18 need a parent/guardian to sign a youth waiver) on a yearly basis to use the Climbing Center.

Minors age 8-15 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or a sponsoring adult, age 18 or older, while using the facilities (the adult must be within the Climbing Center). The minor must have a parent/guardian signed youth waiver on file in order to use the facility. The minor must participate in all parts of a skill check except belaying. This includes harnesses, tying in, rules and spotting. Minors age 8-15 must be accompanied and belayed by their parent/guardian or a sponsoring adult, except during teen hours or special programs or when bouldering. This age group is allowed to boulder and spot for bouldering.

Minors under the age of 8 may only enter the Climbing Center during family climb hours and special programs and are not allowed to spot for bouldering or to belay. There is no minimum age for family climb time however children must be under control of and within arms reach of the accompanying parent/guardian or sponsoring adult when not climbing.
